Most IT service companies hide their pricing behind contact forms, creating friction and distrust. Simple min/max range calculators lack credibility. We needed to build an estimation tool grounded in real methodology (PERT three-point estimation) that accounts for project type, platform complexity, feature scope, design level, timeline pressure, industry requirements, and regional rate differences — all while remaining intuitive for non-technical users.
We built a 6-step algorithmic wizard backed by a pure-function PERT estimation engine and 88 database config entries across 14 categories. Step 1 selects project type (7 options with base-hour tiers). Step 2 picks target platforms (7 options with multipliers). Step 3 toggles features (18 options) with per-feature complexity selectors (simple/medium/complex). Step 4 sets design level and timeline. Step 5 configures project stage, industry vertical, and team region. Step 6 renders a comprehensive results dashboard: PERT hours visualization, 5-phase breakdown with stacked bar chart, team composition recommendation, 6-region cost comparison, industry benchmark positioning, TCO projections (1/3/5 year), 4-milestone payment schedule, full calculation breakdown, and PDF export. The running estimate updates in real-time as users make selections. Zero hardcoded pricing — every multiplier, rate, and benchmark comes from PostgreSQL via our NestJS API.
